About Our New Site

For years, Sierra Nature Notes was sponsored and hosted by the Yosemite Association. Unfortunately, they're no longer able to do this, so I've moved it to a new web host. Previously, I'd been able to offer a small stipend to starving graduate student authors and researchers. With the loss of sponsorship, I'm no longer able to do that. Nor do I any longer receive support for soliciting, editing and formatting articles for our readers — as well as paying for the site itself.

Nonetheless, I immodestly think Nature Notes is a great contribution to our understanding of the Sierra and even how science works and is applied.

I hope you appreciate the work done by the many researchers who contribute their time and articles. They're out in all kinds of weather throughout the year, wading in cold mountain lakes, hauling heavy loads out to their base camps and, generally, having too much fun. Our goal is that the results of their efforts lead you to a deeper respect and understanding of the complex ecology of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Finally, because I've done some reformatting when transferring the site to our new host, some of the pages may be a bit jumbled. I'm in the process of fixing them, but please write me if anything seems especially out of alignment or a link no longer works. My address is below.

Thank you for your continued support!
